One thing I have never been able to understand is this: WHY would a person who is defending themselves and/or their property, be charged with murder or manslaughter, when they shot a person who was breaking into their home in the middle of the night for obviously, no good, and then the person died from the gunshot wound? Such laws differ a bit from state to state, and I know this is no longer the wild, wild west, but come on... where do OUR rights of self defense count over the criminal?? I don't care what political or religious philosophy you support... this is a common sense matter. If you are put at risk through no fault of your own, because a no good maniac is breaking into your house, don't you have the right to defend yourself and your property, if you are in an emergency situation where there is no time to consult law enforcement? I think would-be criminals break into homes because the risk is not that great for them... if they thought they'd be shot, they might think twice about doing such deeds. Remember the sign you could buy to put on your front door, "Property protected by Smith and Wesson"
